Waterproof & Dustproof Grade IPXX and Electronic Products Waterproof Grade JIS
The Waterproof Level of Electronic Measuring
Instruments reflects also the capacity of moisture-proof and dust-proof.
Particularly the outdoor activities, they are often in badly environment
as high humidity or more dust and sand. It is extremely important
for equipment seal and ability of waterproof to guarantee the
equipment operating safely and life.
International relative organization stipulate for IEC529
Standards. In order to adapt to this, Japanese Industrial Standards
stipulate that the protection of waterproof electronic equipment
are on a scale of 0-9, respectively IPX1, IPX2…… said.

product can completely prevent dust from entering, and will be
inundated under water with definite pressure for long period of
time.
The requirements on the
experiment of IPXX Waterproof Grade
(1) IPX 1
Method: Vertical Dripping Test
Test Equipment: Device of Dripping Test
Samples position: the sample is put on
the rotary sample platform at the speed of 1r/min. There is not
more than 200mm during the top of sample and water gap.
Test Conditions: dripping capacity of
10.5 mm / min
Duration: 10 min
(2) IPX 2
Method: Tilt 15° Dripping Test
Test Equipment: Device of Dripping Test
Samples position: sample surface with
one 15 angle into the vertical line, not more than 200 mm from top of sample to water dripping mouth. Once
one side is tested, another side for testing, total four times.
Test Conditions: dripping capacity of
30.5 mm / min
Duration: 4 × 2.5 min (10 min)
(3) IPX 3
Method: Pouring water Test
Methods:
a. Pouring Water Test by Swinging Tube.
Test Equipment: Pouring water test device.
Sample Position: select the tube with
appropriate radius. Make the sample on the diameter of the tube.
Place the sample on the stage and make distance from top to the
mouth less than 200mm.
The stage should not be rotated.
Test Conditions: Water flow should be
calculated by the blowholes. Each blowhole is 0.07L/min.
while pouring water. Make water spray to the sample, on each side
of the center point of the tube with 60° radian. The sample which
is being tested should be placed on the semi-circle center of
the tube. Swing tube swings 60° on each side and along with the
vertical line, totally 120°. It takes 4s for each swing (2x120°).
Duration: 10min continuously.
b. Pouring water test by nozzle
Test Equipment: Pouring and Splashing
device by hand
Sample Position: Make the parallel distance
between the 300-500mm
from the top to the spray mouth.
Test Condition: Install the baffle which
is with the balance article while proceeding in the test. Water
flow should be 10L/min.
Duration: At least 5min if
being calculated by the area of the sample surface. Each square
meter is 1min (excluding the installation area).
(4) IPX 4
Method: Splashing Water Test
Test Method:
a. Splashing Water by Swing Pipe Test
Test Equipment and Placed: as the same
as IPX3 a
Test Conditions: In addition to the latter
conditions, as the same as the IPX 3
a; The acreage to be splashed water is 90° on each
side of middle of swing pipe, the sample is splashed by the blowhole.
The sample is placed in the center of swing pipe’s half circle.
Along the two side of vertical line, swing pipe is swinged by
180°, a total of about 360°. The time is about 12s each swing(2
× 360 °).
Test Time: the same as IPX3 b, (10 min).
b. Splashing Water by Nozzle Test
Test Equipment and Placed: the same as
IPX 3 b
Test Conditions: remove the baffle-board
installed on equipment with balance weights, others are as same
as IPX 3 b;
Test Time: the same as IPX 3 b. It is
that to be calculated according to the surface acreage of sample
crust, 1 min per square meter (not include the area of installation)
at least 5 min.
(5) IPX 5
Method: Spray Water Test
Test Equipment: diameter of nozzle is
6.3 mm
Test Conditions: the distance is 2.5m~3m from the sample to nozzle, water flux is 12.5L/min (750L/h)
Test Time: Calculate the surface acreage
of sample crust, 1 min per centiare , (not include area of installation)at
least 3 min.
(6) IPX 6
Method: Spray Strongly Water Test
Test Equipment: diameter of nozzle is
12.5 mm
Test Conditions: the distance is 2.5m~3m from the sample to nozzle, water flux is 100L/min (6000L/h)
Test Time: Calculate the surface acreage
of sample crust, 1 min per centiare , (not include area of installation)
at least 3 min.
(7) IPX 7
Method: Immersion in Water at Short Time
Test
Test Equipment and Conditions: Water
tank. The depth of tank, when the sample is put in water tank,
the distance from the bottom of sample to surface of water is
at least 1m, and the distance from the top of sample
to surface of water is at least 0.15m.
Test Time: 30 min
(8) IPX 8
Method: Diving at Long Time Test
Test Equipment, Conditions and Time:
Be decided by supplier and demander, the extent should be higher
than IPX7.
NOTE: In addition, many outdoor
electronic products are being stressed the capability of floating.
